In times of waiting for the judiciary and graduation, when anger tests patience, joy and disappointment are almost at the door, when the judicial activities are long and have not yet been carried out, when anxiety grows it is said that our class of year will not attend graduation. Exactly on November, 7th 2022 at 21:35 pm, suddenly my cellphone vibrated, it turned out there was a message coming in on WA, I opened the cellphone code and opened my WA account, it turned out it was from Hero, curiously I opened it.
Apparently, what was sent contained an article embedded in one of the journals written at the bottom
“Good night Keiya. Here you have a thesis published by someone else. This is PLAGIARISM!” hero chat
I slowly read the message. When my reading came to the word plagiarism, of course I was shocked and amazed. The reason is that two possibilities arise in my mind, namely, has there been a previous researcher who has conducted research with the same title in the thesis that I am writing? Or is it the other way around, are they the ones who plagiarized my scientific writing (SKRIPSI)? These two big question marks bother me inside. But make no mistake! Not long after, I realized that this written work really belonged to me, because it was no use during the research and writing of the thesis, I went back and forth here and there just to consult and correct my two supervisors. Then I re-read the message and was convinced that what the Hero conveyed meant those who stole my written work. So, when I read the message from the hero, my anger was already burning because I knew that someone else might take my thesis.
Then I answered "Good evening sir, if it's like this, should I report it to the POLICE or what?" Not asking deeper questions, I answered with pressure/excessive questions, emotional reasons. Continuation of chat "Yesterday the only person who asked me to have a thesis file was Mr. "S". Continuing the chat, he brought it up again, "Sir, please let me make a fuss on campus!" I sent this series of messages to the Hero.
Not long after I sent the messages to Hero, suddenly my cellphone made a beep sound, I already knew that this was a sign that a message had arrived on WA. While waiting for a reply from the Hero, I opened WA which had just entered and it turned out it was from my comrade in arms. The message contains the title of my thesis, then there is a continuation below it says
"Does it your title of scientific writing, bro ?"
I immediately answered "That's right friend, there is plagiarism".
"I have that too," he replied.
Emotional anger flared up inside me, with a state of anger!!!
I immediately sent a message to my comrades in arms, "Tomorrow, go to campus to do an action," I said firmly.
Without waiting long my friend answered with the word "Ready"
It seems that even my friend is very emotional because we have the same complaints, both of which were published in our scientific papers (SKRIPSI).
"Kiya" my closing words in MEE language if translated in Indonesia "That's enough".
While asking in your mind, who is the mastermind behind this problem? About a few minutes later, my comrade in arms returned to chat with me, because he had probably forgotten to convey it.
He said, "My Friend, have you ever sent it to anyone?"
Yes, I already suspected that maybe my comrades in arms were also curious about why our scientific papers could be taken and then stuck on the wall of a journal on campus in the name of someone else (a lecturer who was never present to give us material on campus).
"That's right sir, "S" is all I ever sent," I replied to a chat from my friend.
My friend already suspected that it was the same person my friend had sent, he answered
"It's the same with my friend, I also sent it to him."
Wow, apparently my friend had sent a draft of his thesis to the same person, I thought.
“Get out on the field, friends, tomorrow. Afternoon" I chatted firmly.
Then without thinking, my friend responded briefly, "Ready, friend".
After finishing talking with my comrades in arms, the beep sounded again vibrating my cellphone, when I opened it there was a message on WA from the hero. So, the chats between me, my friend and the hero in sequence seemed to have been planned after my friend and I finished chatting and then the hero followed by sending his message.
The hero answered the chat between me and him previously, "It's strange but true, suddenly the author immediately wrote the name of a fictional lecturer who never appeared to teach."
“This is pure plagiarism!!!! – continued the Hero.
My response to his chat – “That's it, sir. "S" must be responsible."
"Ready sir, we ask that if you are not busy, you will also be present on campus this afternoon. "My comrades and I will complain and make a lot of noise there." My chat was viewed directly and the hero appeared to be writing to reply to my chat.
While waiting for a reply with full hope so that the Hero can accept my request to be present on campus to witness the protest that we will be carrying out, the Hero answered.
“I apologize without disrespect, I don't have teaching hours tomorrow. From the day after tomorrow to Friday, that's fine. You have to protest because if you don't have a thesis that will be considered plagiarized they have work. I will still support it because practices like this kill the character of Papuan children who want to develop."
Even though our hero will not be present, the last sentence moved me and even my enthusiasm rose. Then with joy I responded to his message
"Amanai sir, your blessings will be with us."
After answering and responding to the hero's chat, I opened my Facebook account to post to FB social media. Without me knowing, the hero had been monitoring me on FB too, because we were also friends on our Facebook account.
Then suddenly my chat hero said, "Ogai, please don't share on social media like FB before. We'll talk about the study program in front of the dean first. But tomorrow you have to protest on campus. This is serious!!!”.
My post was already posted 2 minutes ago and only 4 people have commented. Previously I had suspected this action was wrong but I had already posted it and admitted it
"Okay sir, I'm ready, my emotions are running high, sir," replied the chat from Pahlawan.
Then the hero responds back “This is truly character assassination. Critical!!!!"
I answered, "That's right, sir, something like this is the saddest thing they have done to indigenous Papuans. We will protest on your campus, sir. Thank you, good night sir."
Our chat ended at 23.07 pm. I deleted my post on Facebook.
Then all night from the end of our discussion via WA between Heroes, comrades in arms, and me. Apparently I couldn't rest in peace, my anxiety was getting worse with the hope of early morning. I didn't close my eyes until morning, to pass the time. At around 5:30 am, I activated data and watched a movie on YouTube, it seemed a message tone sounded. Wow, I'm surprised, who is chatting with me this early in the morning? apparently,... The message was from the Hero. Apparently the Hero also did not accept the actions they took towards his students starting from semester 5-7 and became our thesis guidance lecturer in semester 8-9, then he said
“Shalom Good Morning. Keiya & Ogetai must ask to immediately return the manuscript and delete it from the journal because both of you have a graduate degree that could not be recognized because it is thought to be plagiarism of someone else's work. Immediately go to the Dean, Head of Study Program. Try to print the journal they publish and bring your thesis as proof. Thanks.”
A good idea suggested by the Hero to me and my comrades in arms.
I answered "Yes sir, thank you" closing Hero's message briefly.
One hour passed, at around 09.58 in the morning, Hero sent something on WA, namely an article (my scientific writing) which was plagiarized and published in the campus journal, followed by a message below.
"Ogai, print this later and then bring your thesis again to protest the dean and head of study program. Say you have to change the author's name to the name of both of you and your supervisor. Thanks.”
Not answering at length I sent a message "Amanai sir, thank you very much".
Two hours passed, exactly at 12.00 noon I was planning the action on campus later. My first plan, if there are teaching and learning activities on campus for a while in the afternoon, I have to stop. Second, the classroom must be locked, and for talks and presentations in the form of orations. Third, the talk must be in public or in front of juniors and other lecturers. I have thought about this plan carefully and just need to apply it in the field. I eagerly awaited the time to leave for campus to act.
Unexpectedly, there was an incoming message on my WA from another Hero,-
“Syalom, good afternoon. This afternoon you will meet the Head of Study Program and the Dean. The demand is to just delete it or not change the author. Each of you has the name of your thesis supervisor. Said if it is not deleted we will report it to the police...because this is PLAGIAT !!!".
My plans changed completely when the message was sent by the Hero. Because what Hero means is, there is a more humane way to solve a problem, there is a solution if we talk about it cool-headedly. Therefore I decided to follow the advice of the Hero –
"Yes sir, the plan is the same as what you said." Previously I had other plans, but I followed the Hero's advice.
I looked at the time on my cellphone, it was already 2.00 in the afternoon. I rushed to get ready, as is my habit, just wearing a round neck shirt, cloth trousers, bare feet (no shoes), then I called my comrades in arms just before leaving.
Of course he picked up the phone and said, "Yeah, bro, how are you?"
I said "don't forget to wear your alma mater"
then my comrade in arms answered "okay friend".
I said, "I'm starting from home to campus right now," I added.
"Okay, I'm also getting ready," said my friend.
"Okay, see you on campus," I said as I hung up the call.
After finishing talking to my friend via voice call, I started the motorbike, then played the accelerator slowly, the motorbike ran, while emitting unpleasant smoke. I casually played with the gas on the motorbike. When I arrived in front of the campus, I did not immediately enter the campus area but I parked my motorbike in front of the roadside. Then I grabbed my cell phone to call my friend from the front of campus to ask where he was. I started the call then he answered
"Hello friend how is it" he asked.
I immediately answered "I'm already in front of campus, friend".
He said "I'm going there, friend".
Then I answered "okay, I'll wait in front of the campus" and hung up the phone.
For a few minutes I waited in front of the campus entrance gate, it seemed that from a distance of 4 or 5 meters there were two people with slightly wider smiles, one of whom was riding a red Jupiter Z motorbike, stopping in front of me. While smiling, we greeted each other and asked questions about what happened regarding the article, while giving suggestions for action in the campus area. The two people mentioned above are brothers, whose older brother is studying at a university on that campus in the same faculty and study program as me. So, he is my younger brother. Then his younger brother, who was still in high school, came to campus to accompany his older brother, after which he returned home.
Now, the question is how did this junior learn about the problem, plagiarism and this article? So he asked and even gave me suggestions for action on the campus grounds.
Sorry I didn't tell you earlier. So I call this level of younger sibling "favorite sibling".
The story is, I posted on WA status that my scientific writing was plagiarized by an unknown person or lecturer. Then this beloved sister saw the status on WA that I had posted. Without asking further, it seems that this beloved sister has already opened the article, perhaps she has already read it, -
Who is "L P", a lecturer on campus?" He asked me in response to the status on WA.
Then proceed with the proposal "Ndemii, bring this person to justice, Report to LBH".
Then, I casually answered a question from my favorite brother, "I don't know, it looks like that lecturer."
Then, responding to a suggestion from my beloved brother, I answered, "Ready, if tomorrow we protest and there is no answer, we will report this."
It turns out that my beloved little brother is in line with his brothers, he knows no fear and supports his brothers.
My beloved brother asked, "Is the protest in the morning or afternoon?"
He continued, "Just bring a megaphone to the pulpit to be free."
I answered his question "Dear, this afternoon at class time, we will close all my Faculty classes with my friends."
My beloved brother answered briefly "Danger" because he gets emotional too.
After that I sent a message in response to the short answer from my beloved brother "They will be responsible."
Then his response was, "We must protest, bring the media to come and cover it. Papuan local media” response in the form of a proposal.
"Ready, dear. Hopefully local media will be present," I answered.
“Amen”
Closing our chat, my beloved brother confirmed it. We chatted at night at 00:39, - the next day as I told you above.
Continuation from before after my "favorite Brother" took his brother. While enjoying the motorbikes passing by we sat together in front of the campus while waiting for my comrades to arrive. Because, he said he was still on his way to campus. While exchanging ideas with my beloved sister, a few minutes passed, my friend appeared from the right on his red and black Mio (beat) motorbike, he stopped his motorbike in front of us.
While my friend exhaled, we shook hands for a moment, then entered the campus yard. We monitored the surroundings of the faculty yard with full hope that the Head of Study Program and the Dean would be on campus, it seemed that from the front the dean's face was clearly visible. The Dean is already there and only the Head of Study Program is missing.
I loudly conveyed to the Dean "Sir, we are with the wrong here, so we have to finish it immediately."
"Yes, you already know, so we are waiting for the Head of Study Program to come," said the dean.
After the dean said that, 10-20 minutes passed, the Head of Study Program still had not appeared.
That's why I called him, thankfully he answered my call.
"Good afternoon Sir"
he answered "yes good afternoon Keiya" he immediately said "The judiciary is on Friday in 2 days so get ready"
Ah, we haven't talked at length, I haven't said what I want to say, he should ask how, why are you calling? What is it ? How come the Head of Study Program turned the other way and said that?
I thought, "wow, this looks like he wants to hide his mistake".
I firmly said, "I don't care about the judiciary, but right now you have come to campus and there is a problem that we need to solve."
Immediately he said "yes, son, I'm on my way there, you're ready."
After 30 minutes had passed, the person we were waiting for also appeared in a black car. Then, his car was parked in the place where he usually parks, the head of study program walked 2 or 3 cm from the parking lot to the front entrance to the Faculty office. My friend and I were called to enter the dean's room to discuss the problem. At first I refused if we talked from inside the room, but then I remembered the suggestion from the Hero. So, my comrades and I entered the Dean's room.
In fact, of the many students, including BEM, on campus, especially in our faculty, not a single person dared to accompany us or speak out during our protest. Whether these faculty BEMs don't understand their main duties or tasks or don't know at all what the role of BEM is, but are nominating themselves to be called faculty BEMs, I don't understand the procedures and mechanisms that run on that campus and that faculty. However, my beloved little brother was the only one who faithfully accompanied us brothers and sisters until the end, even to the point where he was determined to record a video of our conversation as proof. We protested cool-headedly, according to the Hero's recommendation that he proposed previously.
So, long story short, the head of the study program and the dean apologized to us for the irregularities they had committed in the crude language of "plagiarism" which had been carried out by the faculty on the scientific papers of me and my colleagues. Then, they explained the reason why they did this, namely "to save the Faculty" then finally we were given the opportunity to decide whether to delete the article in the campus journal with the consequence that the Judiciary and Graduation would take place next year. My friends and I pondered for a moment and then made a decision by saying "Okay, we are willing to sacrifice for our friends so that we can get to the judiciary and graduation and we are willing to sacrifice for the sake of our juniors and even the safety of the Faculty" so, we said we couldn't make the decision ourselves. Supervisors 1 and 2 are also required to be present, to make decisions together. Then we ended the conversation to continue it tomorrow.
I and my comrade in arms and our beloved brother parted ways, because it was getting dark.
Then with some relief I arrived home. When I got home I opened the alma mater I was wearing earlier, then told the family at home. After finishing talking to them, I looked again at the clock on the cellphone screen, it turned out that it was already 22:18 at night. Wow, it seems that this is the time for me to also inform the Hero about the discussion and the results of our protest against the Dean and Head of Study Program.
I chatted to Hero "Sir, we talked earlier, according to plan. And they apologized to us, the Dean and Study Program said we did this for the good of the Faculty and the two study programs. The point from our conversation earlier was, our thesis is a bridge to save the faculty and study program." "Later we will talk together tomorrow afternoon, father, Amanai."
The hero answered in MEE language “Aweta to akado uwata campus to tanii wii” which means “see you tomorrow at 4 pm on campus”.
I replied "Ready sir, trust me. Koha.”
The hero answered in MEE language "Enaimo wegai beuga ini wido tiga enaimo mana wegaya witagee" the English version "before we talk to the head of study program and the dean, we will talk first."
My answer was short, "Koha". Enao my father, ready.” Koha means, “farewell” in the Mapia accent. And enao means "good".
The next day at exactly 3.30 pm in the afternoon I arrived at campus and was sitting in front of the Micro Teaching room. While holding the cellphone, directing my eyes left and right, looking and monitoring while asking, have my comrades in arms come or not? Suddenly my cellphone vibrated with an incoming message from Hero.
“Shalom. Where are you two…let's come to campus already”.
After I saw and read the WA chat from Mr Pahlawan I rushed into the Faculty office because he was waiting inside. I went in and greeted him
"Hello good afternoon sir"
The hero answered "hey Keiya, good afternoon, come in" while smiling and answering my greeting.
We sat down, without further a do, I explained the results of yesterday's meeting/discussion in detail in the dean's room between me and my friend and the head of the study program and the dean. Then my comrade in arms appeared after I told him everything. However, I invited my friend to say some things that I might not have had the chance to tell Hero.
Then the hero said, "Just a moment, if we talk to the head of study program and the dean, I will speak as your supervisor. "But, this Scientific Writing (SKRIPSI) is your breath, so you have to tell them to delete it from the Campus E-journal, you still have a long way to go, the decision is yours."
We answered "Yes sir"
Then the Dean appeared while we were sitting in the faculty office, then other lecturers appeared and finally the head of study program and our second supervisor. Now everything was complete and we gathered in the Dean's room. Long story short, after a long conversation, starting from the first speaker, Head of the Study Program, the second speaker was the Dean and finally given the opportunity to the two Supervisors, our second supervisor was just silent because he still didn't know the problem.
So, the hero takes the expert, when the Hero speaks of course his presentation is based on good data, facts and analysis, as well as his experience, such as when he took a master's degree (S2) in Australia, where several of his friends were sent home for plagiarizing, the Chancellor of Jakarta State University (UNJ) who had his position revoked due to a plagiarism case, then finally the Doctorate diploma of the President of the Republic of Indonesia which is being questioned in 2022.
These facts opened the minds of the Head of Study Program and the Dean. Without thinking twice, the Dean decided to delete the plagiarized scientific article from the campus journal. Finally, the article published in the campus journal was deleted and returned to us. The words spoken by the Dean were:
"In order not to cause serious and long-term problems between us, we as faculty leaders have removed and deleted the articles published in campus journals."
When I heard that come out of the Dean's mouth, I took a deep breath and then exhaled. It feels good.
"My hero, the LORD will bless," I chatted with joy to the hero. After arriving home after the protest.
